AuditionPENINSULA CANTARE is always looking for singers with choral experience, who enjoy a variety of SATB music in different styles. Our singers come from high school, college, or other community choir experience, and most have music reading ability. CANTARE numbers around 40 singers. Our rehearsals are challenging but fun, and designed to help you learn your voice part so you can contribute with musicality and expression. Every singer is a vital part of the ensemble. To arrange an audition, send an email to peninsulacantare@yahoo.com with a description of your musical background and choral experience. Normally, auditions are held at the beginning of each semester, in August and January, but are welcome at any time. The audition will consist of vocalizing, sight-reading of your voice part, and repeating short musical fragments by ear. A prepared solo is not required. CANTARE is a Tuesday night class at Cañada College in Redwood City, and you will need to register for the 1-unit class and pay the required fees. Singers also buy their own music. There is a standard of dress for concert performance. Women wear the same matching black blouse with black pants or long skirt, and men wear tuxedos. Rehearsals are every Tuesday night, from late August to May, 7:15-9:45 in Bldg. 3 Rm. 148 at Cañada College. Once a semester a Saturday rehearsal is scheduled, usually from 9:30 – 2:30. CANTARE generally performs 3 concerts a year, in December, March and May. |
